Boehner: Impeachment Talk a “Scam”

It kinda looks like Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) might have done the same calculations I did yesterday and decided that impeachment of Obama would be a net loser for the GOP right now.

The Hill reports:

The idea that Republicans would impeach President Obama is a “scam” perpetuated by Democrats, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday.

He accused Democrats of hyperbolizing talk of impeaching President Obama to boost their fundraising and turn out their base.

“It’s all a scam started by Democrats at the White House,” Boehner said at the weekly House GOP leadership press conference.

“This whole talk about impeachment is coming from the president’s own staff and coming from Democrats on Capitol Hill. Why? Because they’re trying to rally their own people to give money and show up in this year’s elections,” Boehner said.

As I pointed out yesterday, Rich Lowry recently opined that Obama is actively trying to be impeached to rally the base. It seems maybe Boehner read Lowry’s piece.

Some will, no doubt, decide that Boehner lacks the backbone to go forward with impeachment even if it was a net winner for the GOP. That may be, but on the rare occasion that Boehner does something right, I’m not really concerned with why he did it.
