Good old Hillary… open mouth, insert foot, drive away potential supporters.
“I thought the Democratic party was fairly unified on foreign policy these days. But when [Hillary Clinton] goes insulting Obama for his foreign policy weaknesses, suddenly people realize there needs to be a debate about foreign policy as well,” said Roger Hickey, founder of the Campaign for America’s Future, a liberal organization.
Mrs. Clinton’s interview with the Atlantic magazine was published just days after Mr. Obama ordered airstrikes on militant Islamic insurgents in Iraq — strikes that had already caused deep divisions within a progressive movement that had found unity in opposing President George W. Bush’s decision to go to war in Iraq.
In her critique of Mr. Obama, his former secretary of state blasted the administration for failing to act sooner to halt the march of the Islamic State, which is making key gains across Iraq.
It’s hard to blame Hillary for trying to distance herself from Obama in preparation for a supposed 2016 run — which I still doubt will happen — but she picked the worst possible foreign-policy issue to do it on.
Many leftists still haven’t forgiven her for her yea vote on the Iraq AUMF in 2003, and that’s a large part what allowed Obama to slide to her left in 2008. I’m sure in the wake of this interview, some anti-war leftist is salivating at the prospect of doing it to her in 2016, if she runs.
I think Hillary would be better off learning to knit so she can make things for her future grandkids.
